Last January, I traversed the roads of Disney World in Orlando, Florida to run 13.1 miles and journey through the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT in order to prove to myself I could. I have tried to do races I found interesting in my brief running career, and this weekend, that continues in Disneyland.
If one runs a marathon or half marathon in Disney World and complete the Disneyland Half Marathon, Disney refers to that as completing the coast to coast marathon, and when completed, the runner receives a special award in addition to the medals for completing the individual races. Having already run the Disney World Half Marathon in January, I look to complete my coast to coast marathon this Sunday when I run through Anaheim and Disneyland.
I will be running with my friend Amara, who I met through the Chevy SXSW Roadtrip. Common adversity formed a bond of friendship and I look forward to seeing her this weekend as we traverse the California roadways. I have never been to Disneyland before, so this will be a unique way to be introduced to the original Happiest Place on Earth, and I look forward to being happy at the finish line.
