Recap: The runDisney Dumbo Double Dare

After an unseasonably hot run in January for the Goofy at Walt Disney World, I signed up to run in the inaugural Disneyland Dumbo Double Dare. Running a half marathon and full marathon in the same weekend in 80 degree heat did not discourage me from signing up for yet another back to back race on the other side of the country.

Disney Buys Lucasfilm and My Childhood

Growing up, the most prevalent characters were from Walt Disney, Marvel Comics and Jim Henson. Mickey Mouse, Spider-Man and the Muppets were central icons to my formative years, but my childhood centered around Star Wars. The adventures of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia as they battled Darth Vader captured my young imagination through three movies and the occasional television special. Even through the 80s, when most of the Star Wars fandom died, I kept a small piece of it somewhere in my life until it grew again in the mid-90s. This week, George Lucas has decided not only to step down from the Star Wars universe, but to sell it to the Walt Disney Corp.

Walt Disney World Half Marathon Aftermath

I’ve previously written about running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon, but focused mainly on the run itself and my experiences with it rather than its effect on me and its repercussions for me. I wanted to focus on those other aspects that weren’t part of my previous ruminations.
