Two years ago, I ran my first race. A 5K through the roads of the Bronx Zoo in order to raise money for tigers in the wild. I returned for the third time to run the Bronx Zoo again and raise money for lions.
For the second year, I decided to take the month of April to reset and realign myself mentally and physically. Exercising, working and just generally getting myself out of the unhealthy habits that I normally have. Add to it the Bronx Zoo Run for the Wild 5K, and there is the potential to get healthy again.
One year ago, I was challenged by friends to run my first race over brunch. After 13 weeks of Couch to 5K training, I ran my hardest and successfully traversed the three miles around the Bronx Zoo in the Run For the Wild to raise money for Tigers. Tomorrow, I return to the zoo to run those three miles again.
Nine weeks ago, I went to brunch with friends and they challenged me to run the Bronx Zoo Run For the Wild 5K because I was considering taking up running but wavering because of the predicted poor weather. After 9 weeks of running and a month of “detoxing,” I finally ran the race. And I am aware there are a few days left of April, but I thought it best to recap it with the race results.
I was at brunch a month ago when I told some friends I was thinking of trying to take up running again, a failed endeavor a year earlier due to work commitments. The coming snow storm caused me to consider starting a week later, but cajoling from my friends pushed me to start the Couch to 5K program that Monday and to prepare for a 5K around the Bronx Zoo.
