At the Walt Disney World marathon run expo, I was checking all the different wares the running oriented companies we offering for sale to the runners. One such company was Auria, who were showing off the running headphones. Recently they sent me a pair to review.
A year and a half ago, I discovered the Yurbuds earbuds at the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend Run Expo. When I first purchased them, I quickly fell in love with them. They sounded good, felt comfortable, and stayed firmly in my ears. Unfortunately, the earphone design was less than stellar and I had to return them twice because the sound went out. The second time, I received their new design.
In order to get an automatic entry into the coveted New York Marathon, a runner can complete 9 races and volunteer for one, to complete what is called the 9+1. This guarantees a place in the following year’s marathon. For the NYC Half Marathon, there is a similar program, where a runner can run four out of five of the borough races and gain entry. This past weekend, the Queens 10K was one of these races.
On Sunday, The New York Road Runners and the New York Giants held their inaugural 5K at the Meadowlands Sports complex. A hot, sunny June day to take to the New Jersey parking lots, roads, and astroturf.
A year ago, I ran around Prospect Park and down Ocean Parkway to a finish line on Coney Island. 13.1 miles through Brooklyn on a quest to complete my second half marathon, and my first in New York. A year later, I returned to run it again in my quest to run in the 2013 New York marathon.
Two years ago, I ran my first race. A 5K through the roads of the Bronx Zoo in order to raise money for tigers in the wild. I returned for the third time to run the Bronx Zoo again and raise money for lions.
I’m always looking for the best headphones to run with, so when I came across the Aftershokz Sport Headphones, I needed to check them out. Rather than going in-ear like most sport headphones, the Aftershokz Sports go in front of the ears and use patent pending military special ops bone conduction technology to give a completely different listening experience.
Running can be a solitary activity, and as such, having music or books to listen to while runs can help motivate a runner. Just as important as what the runner listens to is what he or she uses to listen to it. The choice of headphones is as important as the device itself that is used. With that in mind, Snuggbuds sent me two pair of their headphones to test out.
I started running after a brunch in February 2010 then ran my first half marathon in January 2011 at Disney World. A year later to the day, I ran my second marathon around Walt Disney World and through its theme parks for another 26.2 miles.
On January 8, 2011, I came down to Florida to embark on my most ambitious run to date. For 13.1 miles, I ran around Walt Disney World and through the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT to complete my first half marathon. It was an amazing experience that drove me to run three more half marathons over the course of the year and the NYC marathon. Now I’ve returned to Florida to run the full Walt Disney World marathon.
