Ever since I was little, my favorite movie has been Star Wars. When LEGO started releasing Star Wars sets almost 20 years ago, it was the first LEGO sets I had bought since I was a kid. It was a way to relive some of my childhood by building ships from my favorite movie. Now, DK Publishing has released Ultimate LEGO Star Wars compiling all the creations released by the LEGO Group.
I decided last year to run the runDisney Kessel Run again after completing it in 2016. I ran the Light Side without a problem in January, but after signing up for Dark Side last summer, I joined Team For Kids to run the Boston Marathon – less than a week before running the Dark Side Challenge. […]
After completing the LEGO Super Friends Project, I continued the project with Part 2, an exploration into other pop culture figures done in the LEGO Friends style. As I did movie, tv, and video game characters, I kept looking at my favorite movies and thinking I couldn’t just do Luke, Han, or Leia. I would need to do an exploration of the different characters from the classic trilogy. And so, as soon as Part 2 was completed, I began The LEGO Star Wars Friends Project.
When I ran the Star Wars Rebel Challenge in Disneyland in January, I knew I would have to run the Dark Side when it was announced as well. Not only was my love of Star Wars and running being combined a second time by runDisney, but now I would be doing the Kessel Run by completing both and receive a medal to commemorate it.
Last year, I ran the inaugural Star Wars Rebel Challenge (10k and half marathon), which combined my love of running and my love of Star Wars. Since they were going to run it again (and later announce the Kessel Challenge), I had to run it again. The races were run on January 16 and 17 […]
The internet has taken what was initially a play on words and turned May the Fourth into a day of celebration called Star Wars Day. It has gone beyond the initial holiday and it has further been coopted to be adopted by consumer culture. To participate in yesterday’s “holiday,” DK Publishing released a comprehensive encyclopedia of all things within the Star Wars universe entitled Ultimate Star Wars.
Growing up, movies weren’t so readily available. When I couldn’t watch Star Wars, I would read books and look at Topps cards to relive the story, when I wasn’t making my own adventures with my toys. DK Publishing is merging the adventures created with toys with the storybooks in LEGO Star Wars in 100 Scenes.
My first half marathon was at Walt Disney World in 2011. At the time I had never run such a distance before and led me to my desire to run marathons, but it led me to running five more Run Disney race weekends (including a Goofy and the inaugural Dumbo Double Dare). I decided to take 2014 off from Disney races in order to run the Berlin Marathon in Germany, but when I heard there was going to be a Star Wars themed race weekend, I had to make my return to Disneyland for the cross section of two of my passions.
Have you ever wondered what William Shakespeare would write if he lived in the modern era? What if he wrote one of the modern pop culture classics, like Star Wars: A New Hope? The folks at Quirk Books have pondered these questions and released William Shakespeare’s Star Wars to answer them.
Each year when I make a gift guide, I look at books that would make good gifts and find that if I put books on the list, I wouldn’t have room for anything else, so I just make a separate list of books that would make good holiday gifts. From tech to social media to graphic novels, there are always so many good books to read.
